Readings on the National Poetry Day theme "Refuge"

Worcester – October 3, 2023 – On Thursday, October 5th, 2023, at 6:30 p.m., poetry enthusiasts and lovers of the written word are invited to gather at Sugar Daddy's Café, Trinity Passage, Worcester WR1 2PQ for a special event celebrating National Poetry Day.

This FREE event, titled "Refuge" will explore the theme of "Refuge" through the art of poetry. The evening will feature the Worcestershire Poet Laureate and friends, promising an unforgettable night of poetry that speaks to the heart and soul.

"Refuge" is a word that carries different meanings for different people. It can signify escaping calamity, war, or trauma, but it can also manifest as a person, a feeling, a place, a poem, a song, or a community. This event is an opportunity for individuals to share their personal interpretations of refuge in a safe and welcoming environment. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own poems, stories, or spoken word pieces to participate in an open mic session.

The highlight of the evening will be a performance by the newly appointed Worcestershire Poet Laureate for 2023/24, Damon Lord. His words are sure to inspire and captivate the audience as he explores the theme of "Refuge" through his poetic lens.

In the spirit of giving back, the event organizers welcome donations on behalf of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC). Every contribution will make a meaningful difference in providing refuge and support to those in need.

If you would like to book a performance slot or learn more about the event, please contact us at or visit the Facebook event page.

Join us on Thursday, October 5th, 2023, at Sugar Daddy's Café for an evening of poetic exploration, community, and meaningful reflections on the theme of "Refuge." This event promises to be a memorable celebration of National Poetry Day that will leave you inspired and moved by the power of words.
