21 September 2025. The latest edition of my newsletter is now up, in which a confiscated book taught me to treasure reading, understand societal class, and defy censorship.
16 July 2024. I'm not normally one to blow my own trumpet, but indulge me just this once. Today I graduated from the University of Hull with an M.A. in Creative Writing (Merit). I walked across the stage, shook hands with the Chancellor Alan Johnson, and with that I went from graduand to graduate.
However, it's not the end of the journey. I've received an unconditional offer, and accepted it, to do a PhD in English and Creative Writing, starting this autumn at the University of Gloucestershire in Cheltenham. In the meantime I'm working on a novel over the summer.
My thanks go to the lecturers Megan, Kate, Barbara, and Chris, all my classmates, and of course to my wife and son who were there for me.
